MONSTROUS. Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Lost Daughter) returns to film with her second directorial effort, The Bride! — a new vision for James Whale's 1935 film, Bride of Frankenstein, a universally accepted text that invites a more feminist reading of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel, Frankenstein.

(And yes, it joins Darren Aronofsky's Mother! in the short list of films using an exclamation point for enigmatic effect.)

The film stars Jessie Buckley in the eponymous role, with Christian Bale playing some lonely variant of Frankenstein who yearns to have a reanimated companion. Murder and possession ensue in what is being described as a "combustible romance." The Bride! is written, directed, and produced by Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Warner Bros. has shared a couple of one-sheets for the film, along with a two-minute teaser. Check them out after the bump.

The Bride! hits Philippine theaters on March 4th, 2026.
