Jun Lana's 'Sisa' unveils trailer ahead of PÖFF premiere
The new film is set to premiere at the 29th Tallinn Black Nights in November.
Jodi Sta. Maria plays mother-hen to a group of Filipino entertainers in Irene Villamor's new film.
LABAN? LABAN.
Right on the heels of the success of her latest film, The Loved One, director Irene Villamor has announced her upcoming film, Midnight Girls, offering an earnest look at the lives of entertainers in Nagoya, Japan.
TVAJ Productions and Warner Bros. Philippines have just dropped the official teaser-trailer, which you can find further down the jump.
The new film stars Jodi Sta. Maria, Sanya Lopez, Loisa Andalio, and Jane Oineza as a close-knit troupe of Japayuki—a term used to describe Filipino entertainers in Japan, borrowed from 'Nihonyuki' translating to "bound to Japan"—as they navigate their struggles working away from home.
"Hindi tayo pinalaki ng Sexbomb para lang bumawi." (We weren't raised on Sexbomb Dancers just to give up.) Sta. Maria's character, seemingly the de facto big sister of the group, emboldens her wide-eyed coven to stay the course and fight. "Lumaban tayo girls, ha?" (Girls, we're going to fight, alright?)
Midnight Girls is scheduled to hit Philippine theaters May 13th, 2026.
