ONLY MONSTERS PLAY GOD. Netflix has taken its wraps off of Guillermo Del Toro's long-awaited film adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel, Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus. The two-minute preview offers a full glimpse at Jacob Elordi lending his monstrous stature to Viktor Frankenstein's creation, billed as The Creature. The trailer drop dovetails nicely with that of Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride!, a Frankenstein film centered on the Creature's bride.

Frankenstein film premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival to (mostly) critical appraise. It's considered as a return-to-roots of sorts, with del Toro "keeping the innermost essence, the soul of cinema, alive at least" and "[achieving] a vision that channels Shelley’s spirit while avoiding a retread of old ground."

Maggie Gyllenhaal directs this translation of Whale’s adaptation of Shelley’s novel — out in theaters March 4th, 2026.

The new film stars Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz. Del Toro directs and writes the screenplay. The synopsis reads, in full:

A brilliant but egotistical scientist brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

In addition to the trailer, Netflix has also released the official key art for the film, featuring Elordi's the Creature, posed sternly with a crimsoned left hand.
